CarbonFree’s SkyCycleTM captures and utilizes carbon emissions from hard-to-abate industrial sources by converting CO2 into specialty chemicals, including calcium carbonate. Calcium carbonate comprises more than 4% of the earth’s crust and is found throughout the world as chalk, limestone and marble.
The Trudvang project comprises capture of CO2 by multiple industrial emitters in Northern Europe and the UK, shipping of liquid CO2 from export terminals to an onshore receiving terminal in the south-west of Norway and transport via a purpose-built pipeline to the Trudvang location for injection and permanent storage.
Operating at a landscape scale of over 500 hectares each, the six projects will restore landscapes across England – from Plymouth to Northumberland – and assess how carbon is captured and stored across different habitats such as grasslands, forests, wetlands and hedgerows.
Of the total contribution, $22 million has been committed to the Barrow Dampier CCS Regional Study, which is led by global technology company SLB, and supports a three-dimensional seismic and storage assessment to identify new CCS opportunities in the Carnarvon basin, offshore Western Australia.
