Holcim invests in neustark, a startup with mineralization technology

Holcim has invested in neustark, a cleantech startup that offers innovative technology to capture and mineralize carbon dioxide within construction demolition materials, thereby removing and permanently storing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

The collaboration builds on Holcim’s commitment to putting clean technologies to work for a net-zero future, from carbon capture, storage and utilization to carbon dioxide removal.

Miljan Gutovic, Region Head Europe: “At Holcim, we are working to decarbonize building for a netzero future and neustark’s technology helps us reach this goal. After the successful demonstration of neustark’s solution in Switzerland, we are ready to scale up this carbon removal technology globally.”

Mineralization technology

The proprietary mineralization technology pioneered by neustark involves capturing CO2, liquifying it and then binding it within construction demolition materials during the concrete recycling process, enabling building solutions that are both circular and low-carbon. Neustark’s goal to remove 1 million tons of CO2 from the atmosphere by 2030 advances Holcim’s mission to decarbonize building and drive circular construction. Holcim’s investment and strategic collaboration will help neustark scale its technology globally to build a net-zero future for people and the planet.
